Age Limit
Maximum Age: 26 years as on 01 October 2026. Age Relaxation: OBC +3 years, SC/ST +5 years; PwBD — UR +10 years, OBC-NCL +13 years, SC/ST +15 years; Ex-Servicemen — period of service +3 years; Ex-Agniveers +3 years; Ex-Trade Apprentices of GRSE +3 years. After all relaxations, the maximum age shall not exceed 56 years.
Salary Details
Journeymen will be on 02 years of training on a fixed stipendiary basis — Stipend: Rs 24,000 per month in the 1st year and Rs 26,000 per month in the 2nd year. On successful completion of training, they may be absorbed in the permanent roll in the Semi-Skilled (SSK) grade (Rs 19,900-3%-69,650, or as revised), with Industrial DA, HRA, allowances, CPF and gratuity as per the company’s rules.
Selection Process
1. Written Test — pen and paper based, OMR answer sheets, 100 objective questions of 100 marks in 02 hours (Part-I: trade-related questions, 80 marks; Part-II: General Knowledge, Aptitude, Reasoning and Numerical Ability, 20 marks), bilingual (English and Hindi), held at Kolkata and Ranchi. Qualifying marks: 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC and 40% for PwBD). 2. Document Verification of shortlisted candidates (in the ratio of 1:5). 3. Practical (Trade) Test — qualifying in nature, 50 marks. 4. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — only for Driver Material Handling, Rigger and Crane Operator posts, qualifying in nature. If a very large number of applications are received, GRSE may shortlist candidates on the basis of marks in the qualifying examination (NAC/NTC). The final merit list will be drawn on the basis of marks in the written test. Note: candidates holding higher professional qualifications such as an Engineering Degree, MBA, CA, LL.B, MCA or Ph.D are NOT eligible for these posts, as per the notification.
